Barkley and Jordan haven’t spoken for “probably nearly a decade,” according to the NBA broadcaster
It seems that a 2012 ESPN radio interview was the downfall of their relationship. Barkley never specified which interview or exactly when Jordan called, but speculated further All smoke it is now “probably almost ten years ago.”
“I used to say, ‘Hold on, I’m criticizing other general managers. Just because the guy is my best friend, it’s not fair if I have a double standard.’
Given the fascination with two of the NBA’s most powerful former players and personalities, this is something Barkley has had to deal with since their friendship eroded.
“Like I said, Michael got mad about something. I said we haven’t spoken and now I have to defend twice a year… I’m like, ‘Yo man, Michael is great, Charles is great.’ I wish him nothing but the best.
“But dude, we’re not like Prince Harry and Prince William. We don’t take pictures through back door channels all the time. Michael is doing great, and I’m doing great too.’
What’s interesting about the situation is that Jordan and Barkley have rarely been in the same spaces, despite their obvious mutual interests and relationships.
“I think we’ve really just bumped into each other, we’ve never met in person or close enough, but I think we’ve actually only been in the same room three times in the last 25 years.”
“We were in New York in the same hotel one time, and then he had to introduce someone onstage for a year in the Hall of Fame, and I had to introduce someone onstage. And I think the third time was during that 75th anniversary, and we never got within 20 feet of each other.
“But we don’t go to many NBA events, and I don’t go to NBA games for one simple reason: I had my day. I don’t want to take away today’s players.’
