Franchise friend: Michael J. Fox, shown in Utah on Saturday, has reflected on his friendship with his Back To The Future franchise co-star Christopher Lloyd.

“It took me a few movies to get to know him. In ‘Back to the Future III’ we connected in a way that we hadn’t in the other movies. He came to see how much he liked acting. I never had that before. To sit down and talk about acting and talk about Shakespeare and ‘King Lear’… This guy can play King Lear! People don’t expect that of him. He is full of surprises,” Fox added.

He continued: ‘He can tell the story of a movie in two seconds and you get it. We, the usual actors, have to design hours and hours to get the information out. Chris is brilliant at that. His love for film and his love for being an actor…he’s not just a crazy guy, he’s an artist.’

Fox starred as Marty McFly in the franchise that spawned three movies, a short, and an animated series.

The Family Ties star earned a standing ovation at Sundance on Friday after the world premiere of his documentary Still, which examines his legendary acting career and his battle with Parkinson’s disease.
