Michael Douglas says he and Leonardo DiCaprio lament having little privacy due to social media

But Michael Douglas laments that he has little privacy in his personal life thanks to the evolution of social media.

He also shared that his actor friend Leonardo DiCaprio, 48, has the same complaints, with both stars shocked by the speed at which information is passed on social networks.

In an exclusive conversation with MailOnline at its Cannes Film Festival Rendezvous on Thursday, Michael, 78, shared how he “doesn’t have the freedom” like he had before social media was invented.

Michael shared, “Things changed a lot before social media – before social media you had more secrets.

“You could hold silent meetings without everyone knowing.

“Now wherever you go — I talked to Leonardo Di Caprio about that — you get a sighting and then people text the thing and then before you know it there’s 100 and then 1000 people connecting.

“You don’t have as much freedom as you used to.”

The Hollywood star was recently joined by wife Catherine Zeta-Jones and their daughter Carys on the red carpet at the annual film festival.

And during his interview, Michael talked about the importance of family and how special it was to have Carys with herself and Catherine at her first Cannes event.

The Fatal Attraction star added to MailOnline: ‘I think family is important no matter what business you’re in and to support each other. Families can also drive you crazy and every situation is unique.

“Catherine, my wife has a very close and close relationship with her family. Were close. I have an older son, 42, from my first marriage and we are close.’

He continued, “It will be a great disappointment to have an event like this and not be able to share it with anyone. To be able to be there and show your daughter you do this and the fact that she wants to be an actress too.

“She’s a great actress, I can’t imagine the pressure from the third generation. Family means a lot to me. I’m not really good on my own.’

The power couple also have a 22-year-old son named Dylan, a Brown University graduate.

Catherine and Michael met in 1998 and married in 2000 at the Plaza Hotel in NYC and have gone on to become one of Hollywood’s most enduring couples.

The pair put on a beloved show when they took their girl to the opening night of the festival on Tuesday.

The rising star, 20, looked elegant in a light pink floral mesh dress with cut-out hip details, paired with platform heels.

When the family arrived at the top of the iconic red staircase, Carys and Catherine planted a kiss on 78-year-old Michael’s cheeks.

Catherine, 53, looked glamorous in a plunging red dress with a one-sleeve cape detail.

The Academy Award-winning actress styled her brunette locks in loose curls and sported a blush makeup look.

Meanwhile, Michael looked smart in a black tuxedo, crisp white shirt and shiny shoes.
