Michael Douglas, 79, says Biden isn’t too old for a second term

Michael Douglas has given his opinion on whether his current President Joe Biden is too old to run for president.

During an appearance on CNN’s Fareed Zakaria GPS on Sunday, the 19-year-old Oscar winner was asked for his opinion on the 81-year-old’s abilities given his age.

“Well, I guess I walk a little bit like him, and the people I’ve talked to say he’s as sharp as a tack… He’s doing well,” Douglas said.

‘We all have a problem with memories as we get older, we forget names. He has overcome a stutter in his life and sometimes he might [stutter]but let’s just say that his entire cabinet, including his vice president, would be eager to work with him again in the next term.

“I can’t say that about the other candidate running because no one in his cabinet wants to deal with him before 2016.”

“Well, I guess I’m getting on him a little bit, and the people I’ve talked to say he’s as sharp as a tack… He’s doing fine,” Douglas said

Zakaria pressed Douglas further and asked whether Biden would be able to govern the country in four years, when he is well into his eighties.

“I think he’s doing well, thank you very much,” echoed the actor, who plays Benjamin Franklin in Apple TV’s Franklin, which depicts the founding father’s time in Paris during the Revolutionary War.

‘This is probably the most important election of my life. This is the most critical time of my life that I can remember. We need someone who is in control, who has some experience and knows how to deal with a global situation.”

Douglas’ comments come after a poll last month found voters’ biggest concern about President Biden is his “mental acuity” heading into the 2024 re-election bid, with his age and ability to serve a second term to round it out, are also at the top of the minds of Americans.

The Deseret/HarrisX poll found that 34 percent of 1,007 voters rank Biden’s mental acuity among their top three concerns about the president’s reelection in November — including 22 percent of Democrats.

The top three issues – with a spread of just 2 percent – ​​show that the most important issue for voters with Trump is his legal issues (24 percent), the worsening divisions in the US (23 percent) and his excessive use of the executive branch (22 percent). .

Trump faces four separate charges and dozens of charges, with the number of cases increasing in the months leading up to the fall general election. The first indictment was filed in March 2023 in the falsification of documents case in Manhattan related to Stormy Daniels’ hush money payment.

The three other indictments that followed are the federal election subversion case, the Georgia election interference case and the Southern District of Florida’s mishandling of classified documents case.

Strikingly, even though Trump is only four years younger than Biden, his mental acuity only came into play when he ranked sixth among respondents on the list. And his age was listed 14th among voters, with just 8 percent citing it as one of their top three issues.

Multiple surveys show the majority of voters don’t want a Biden-Trump rematch in 2020 — but that’s exactly where the vote is headed after both geriatrics earned the delegates needed for their respective parties’ nomination at the conventions this summer.

The HarrisX poll conducted Feb. 26 to 27 shows that 14 percent of respondents say Biden’s age is their top issue, while 13 percent say his mental acuity is their number one issue.
