Michael Douglas, 78, wishes Catherine Zeta-Jones, 53, a happy 22nd wedding anniversary

Hollywood legend Michael Douglas wished his Oscar-winning wife a happy 22nd wedding anniversary on Friday.

The Basic Instinct actor posted two loving photos from their glitzy wedding at the Plaza hotel in New York City in 2000.

“Congratulations my dear Catherine! Love you so much @catherinezetajones ❤️ #22years,” he wrote in the caption.

Michael, 78, was born in 1944, while Catherine, 53, was born in 1969.

“We met in 1996 at the Deauville Film Festival…I think it was 1996!” Zeta-Jones told Larry King in 2001.

“I was told Michael Douglas wanted to meet me. I was a little nervous because I wasn’t sure what he wanted to meet me about.’

Douglas promoted A Perfect Murder and Zeta-Jones promoted The Mask of Zorro.

Their friends Antonio Banderas and Melanie Griffith – who used to be married – introduced the actors at a private dinner.

Michael asked Catherine if he could sit next to her.

He famously told her he was going to be the father of her children, which shocked her, she said, and soon after sent her flowers to apologize.

They started a friendship.

“Nine months later, I still have long conversations with him on the phone, great dinner dates, and I’m constantly wondering, ‘Why aren’t we together?'” she told King.

“We looked at each other one day and said, ‘We’re having a lot of fun together,'” she said.

Douglas proposed to Zeta-Jones at his home in Aspen on New Year’s Eve in 1999 with a $1 million diamond ring.

“We were both deathly ill because we had that [the] flu,” he told ITV’s Ross King in 2016.

Their anniversary comes after they celebrated their joint birthdays in September.

The longtime couple shared a large chocolate cake with the actress and stated that it is “so nice” to share the milestone together.

The tasty dessert featured a prominent 25 honoring the date of their birthday — September 25 — not the couple’s 25-year age difference.

The happy couple both blew out their candles before taking to Instagram to commemorate the day.

In an instant, Catherine looked stunning in an asymmetrical blue dress embellished with a white floral pattern.

Accessorizing with gold jewelry, the Oscar winner tied her luscious brunette locks in a bun.

Meanwhile, Michael pulled on a lavender shirt and wore it with dress pants as he brushed back his gray hair.

The pair beamed as they celebrated with the huge dessert before sharing a sweet kiss.

On Instagram, Welsh actress Catherine wrote: ‘And that was our birthday! Thanks for all your greetings. And Maria Fiennes for these beautiful pictures. Let the new year begin!’.

While Michael added, “Thank you all for the sweet birthday messages, we love you all.”

As Catherine gushed, “So nice to share my birthday with you.”

It comes after the couple took to social media earlier in the day to publicly wish each other a happy birthday.

The couple celebrated the big day by enjoying a lavish helicopter ride together.

Their anniversary comes just after she looked stunning in a plunging white dress at Wednesday’s Netflix premiere.

She also had her 22-year-old son, Dylan, with her.

Catherine and Michael also have teenage daughter Carys.
