- He married model Shakira Baksh in 1973 after seeing her in a TV advertisement
- They have a daughter and three grandchildren, he says, who keep him youthful
The secret to a long, happy life is marrying a younger woman, stopping eating between meals – and wearing trainers, 90-year-old Sir Michael Caine has revealed.
In an interview with The Mail on Sunday’s You Magazine, Sir Michael says his advice for longevity is: ‘younger women, don’t snack and always wear trainers – and be careful not to fall’.
He married model Shakira Baksh in 1973 after seeing her in a TV ad and tracking her down. She was 26 and he was 40.
They have a daughter Natasha and three grandchildren who he says also keep him youthful.
“You want to live forever to see what they do with their lives,” he adds.

Oscar winner Sir Michael, who has appeared in more than 160 films, sees ‘boring’ political correctness as one of the worst changes he has seen in his seventy-year career.
He also finds “intimacy coordinators” on modern film sets who ensure that actors don’t cross the line when filming sex scenes, which has become the norm since the birth of the #MeToo movement.
He says, ‘Thank God I’m 90 and I don’t play lovers anymore, that’s all I can say. In my day you just did the love scene and got on with it without anyone interfering. It’s all changed.’
In his latest film The Great Escaper, Sir Michael plays a World War II veteran who sneaks out of his care home to attend the 70th anniversary of the D-Day landings in Normandy.

He stars opposite Glenda Jackson, who died in June at the age of 87, just before the film was released. But Sir Michael says he had ‘no idea’ she was in poor health during filming.
“I was completely stunned when she died 10 days after we had a private preview of the film,” he says.
‘She was a real go-getter. She didn’t seem sick or anything.’ He was recently spotted walking with a frame while on holiday in Barbados and says he falls over ‘all the time’.
He has been using a cane for five years after a fall on the ice and has undergone surgery on his spine.
His co-star in the film John Standing, 89, sympathizes, saying: ‘It’s a bastard, suddenly you fall on the pavement.’
