Canadian pop star Michael Buble was traveling while selecting players for his team during the NHL’s All-Star weekend in Toronto.

During the draft portion of the week’s festivities, Buble served as the celebrity captain of Team Hughes.

Buble emerged as an avid fantasy hockey player, before revealing a bit more by explaining what his night was like.

“I’m in more than one (fantasy) hockey league,” he said. “In the LHL… I happen to be in fifth place. Even though I didn’t have a first overall pick, not even a first pick, I didn’t even have a first-rounder. And I still did what I had to do because of my genius. Second, I’m ranked first in the FHL, (my) other fantasy hockey league.”

‘Third, my friend said to me, “This is just a microdose of mushrooms.” And he lied. So I’ll be honest, I thought I was in “Blades of Glory” for most of the time I was there until it settled down somewhat.

“And then I realized, ‘Holy s–t. I’m at the NHL All-Star Game.’

Buble didn’t let the psychedelics hurt his expertise when it came to picking an All-Star team, as he helped NHL brothers Jack Hughes and Quinn Hughes load up on top players.

After selecting Tampa Bay Lightning winger Nikita Kucherov first overall, Buble made sure the two brothers were surrounded by players they knew.

For New Jersey Devils forward Jack, Buble added teammate Jesper Bratt. The British Columbia native then loaded the rest of the team with Quinn’s fellow Vancouver Canucks stars: Elias Pettersson, Thatcher Demko, Brock Boeser and JT Miller.

But Buble may be feeling a twinge elsewhere: in his wallet, as fellow celebrity Captain Will Arnett joked alongside the singer.

“You know, it just occurs to me that… with all those incredible songs you’ve made over the years and all the hearts of women you’ve won all over the world, with all that talk of fantasy hockey, you’ve lost them all lost one sentence,” chirped actor Will Arnett, the famous co-captain of Team McDavid. “It all just evaporated. Years of building up and it’s just gone.’

“I lost all my contracts because of the mushroom talk,” Buble added with a smile.

The NHL skills competition will take place on Friday evening, followed by the four-team 3-on-3 tournament on Saturday.
