He continued: ‘Hey Lewis, now that I’ve got you here alone, let me tell you how deeply crushed I am that my music could get in the way of your song getting to number one.
‘It’s an amazing song and you’re an amazing guy. I’m putting it on my Christmas playlist right now!
“It doesn’t make sense, it’s so beautiful, if it’s not number one, Christmas should be canceled and maybe even Hanukkah and maybe that’s too much, I don’t know, but I do know this, I love you Lewis Capaldi.”
Tension: It comes after Lewis, 26, started an unlikely party fight with Michael, 47, as they battled for the top of the charts.

The artist’s new single Pointless is currently in the UK top 50 among several iconic Christmas songs, including Michael’s classic It’s Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas, which was released 11 years ago.
Lewis, who co-wrote the song with Ed Sheeran, said during his performance at Capital’s Jingle Bell Ball: “Nobody told me it was probably a bad idea to release a song at Christmas, a song that doesn’t reference Christmas.”
“We are really getting hit on the charts by Christmas songs. Not that it matters, but you know, these record labels want some money.
So if anyone sees Michael Bublé, please let them know I’m looking for him. I have a complaint to discuss with Mr. Bublé!

The Scottish singer, sporting a black jacket and matching trousers with a white T-shirt, added: “I’m going to try and lighten it up here because I’m Scottish,” before telling the crowd of his reaction: ‘Don’t boo my nationality!’
Joking that he had asked Ed Sheeran to perform at the Jingle Bell Ball, he told the audience: ‘Ladies and gentlemen, Ed Sheeran! He is not here I asked him but he said who is he? Stop calling me? So no, Ed!

Lewis’ tune has been played 562 million times via audio and video, the Official Charts Company claimed.
According to the BBC, the Scottish hitmaker said: “Listen… The Beatles, Drake, Metallica, The Eagles, Michael Jackson, don’t worry guys, no hard feelings, I just had to take this one.” Take a step back and let daddy steer the ship now, okay?
On beating the Suffolk native, he added: “Ed is a man who is like a brother to me, he’s been a mentor, he put his arm around me and said, ‘Don’t worry, it’s going to be okay.’
“He has been nothing but kind, courteous and beautiful, a good friend in an ever-changing industry. So to Ed I say… good guys finish last. If you sleep, you lose, boy. Keep up!’
Taking to Instagram, Lewis posed with his award while wearing an inflatable crown.
In her caption, she wrote: ‘Just heard that ‘someone you love’ is officially the MOST STREAMED SONG of ALL TIME in the UK!

Lewis recently claimed his third UK number one single with his comeback track, Forget Me.
The singer flew up the UK singles chart on Friday, with the star previously reaching the top spot with his 2019 hit Someone You Loved and 2020’s Before You Go.
The new song comes three years after the release of Lewis’s debut album, Divinely Uninspired To A Hellish Extent, which spent 10 weeks at the top of the UK charts.
Last year, the Scottish artist postponed all of his live shows to focus on recording a follow-up.
