Michael B. Jordan has been acquitted of possible charges for crashing his Ferrari into a parked car in Hollywood late last year.
Law enforcement sources said the investigation into Jordan had been closed and that no charges would be filed against him. TMZ reported on Thursday.
The 36-year-old actor appears to have let himself off the hook, as police were unable to definitively determine that he was behind the wheel at the time of the crash on Sunset Boulevard on December 3, 2023.
Video of the crash later emerged showing Jordan’s blue Ferrari appearing to race another red sports car, but it wasn’t enough for police to even determine if he was speeding just before the crash.
However, an insider previously told DailyMail.com that Jordan was driving the Ferrari when it crashed. DailyMail.com has contacted Jordan’s representatives for comment.
Michael B. Jordan, 36, will not face charges for crashing his Ferrari into a parked Kia in Hollywood on Dec. 3, 2023, law enforcement sources told TMZ; seen in February 2023 in Atlanta
Sources said police could not determine with certainty that Jordan was behind the wheel when the Ferrari struck the parked vehicle
While the video of the moments before the crash provides an important glimpse into how it happened, the video was shot from far behind Jordan’s sports car and does not provide any glimpse of who was driving.
The vantage point also makes it difficult to determine whether the Ferrari was traveling significantly above the speed limit before losing control and crashing into the parked Kia.
Law enforcement sources said the likely crime Jordan may have been charged with would have been street racing, according to the publication.
However, that would have required police to testify that he was driving at the time of the crash, or at least strong evidence to confirm that he was behind the wheel.
However, police did not arrive on the scene until after the accident had occurred, and based on the video of the accident, police cannot determine whether he can also be charged with speeding.
With nothing definitive emerging, they were forced to let him slide.
Jordan was seen with police shortly after the crash, but it is unclear whether they did not ask him if he had been driving, or whether he refused to answer that question.
They reportedly found no evidence that he was under the influence of alcohol or drugs, but a sobriety test was never administered in Jordan.
Despite the Creed star now being free, an insider previously told DailyMail.com that it was Jordan behind the wheel.
“It was a real accident,” they said. ‘Michael was annoyed that he destroyed his car, but that can be resolved. He was and still is ashamed because he accidentally put his foot on the accelerator and didn’t brake in time.’
They continued: ‘One thing led to another and the parked car was where it was, and all the pieces of the puzzle ended up in an unfortunate way. He’s glad no one was hurt.”
His crash occurred just days before he attended an event promoting his film Creed 3, which he directed and starred in.
Video of the moments before the crash showed Jordan’s Ferrari driving side by side with a red sports car, but it is unclear from the footage whether he was speeding or even racing
Without confirmation, Jordan will not be charged with street racing, which would have been a misdemeanor
However, an insider told DailyMail.com that Jordan was driving and accidentally accelerated too hard, causing the Ferrari to lose control and crash into the parked car.
Jordan was questioned by police, but it is unclear whether he was asked if he was driving. A reporter for LA-OC.tv later said he tried to film the car and its occupants while talking to police, but Jordan’s security guard “tried to chase me away”; seen in March 2023 in Beverly Hills
“Michael appeared in good spirits and showed no injuries following his accident recently,” the source continued. ‘He didn’t feel any worse for the wear and seemed to enjoy talking to all the people at the event.’
A reporter for LA-OC.tv later said he tried to film the car and its occupants talking to police, but Jordan’s security guard “tried to chase me away.”
The collision is said to have damaged both Jordan’s car and the parked car, with the Ferrari losing its front passenger-side tire. KTLwho first obtained the video.
Law enforcement officials have not released the names of anyone at the scene because no one was initially charged in connection with the case.
