Micah Richards shared one of his top career goals with a hilarious story during a recent podcast episode.

The former Manchester City defender recalled his best effort the Rest Is Football podcastalongside Alan Shearer and Gary Lineker, where he left his co-hosts in stitches with his story.

Describing the effort, Richards claimed, β€œI get the ball and break the line. So I have a striker in front of me… I invented breaking the line, like stepping out as they call it.’

Match of the Day presenter Lineker then quickly exclaimed: ‘I invented it! Did you just say that?’.

Shearer also chimed in, saying, β€œHe was the first to break the lines! Just because it was so damn heavy when he stood on it!’

Richards then continued, β€œI passed by and saw oceans and oceans of space before me. And I think in my head: keep going son.

‘I’ve reached the last line of defense and someone is coming towards me and I think: what am I supposed to do here? I’m running out of steam at this point, I’m absolutely devastated!

‘I play a beautiful, bad through ball to Benjani. Benjani, one on one with the goalkeeper, misses and hits the post.

β€œBut I kept running, like the coaches always told me! I continued it and then just collected it, nice engineering finish in the bottom corner. He was a fellow of the world!’

Lineker then jokingly said: ‘Sounds like Maradona’s goal against England, apart from the part where it fell off the post’.

Maradona famously led the entire England team to score at the 1986 World Cup, moments after the Argentine’s ‘Hand of God’ goal.
