Mike McDaniel, head coach of the Miami Dolphins, has not only praised Tua Tagovailoa for keeping his word, but has incorporated judo training into team practice.

Earlier this offseason, the starting quarterback had said he would take up judo to learn better ways to protect his body in the event of a fall.

“I’ve seen a man who has kept his word as well as any young man I’ve encountered in my career,” McDaniel told the newspaper. Miami announces.

“You talk about going above and beyond [with] training and martial arts. We’ve incorporated it into some of the practice work we do with the quarterbacks.”

Tagovailoa told the Up and Adams Show in February: ‘We have drawn up a plan. “I’m going to do judo on Friday so I can figure out how to understand my body and learn how to fall. I’m just trying to help myself.’

Last season, Tagovailoa suffered two concussions, although it is widely believed that he suffered three concussions during the season. Miami called it a back problem, despite many medical experts and former players thinking it was a concussion.

While recently speaking about his concussion last season, the 25-year-old QB admitted that he had even considered retiring for the sake of his health: with my wife and conversations like that.

“But it would have been really hard for me to walk away from the game given my age. With my son I always dream of playing as long as possible where my son can watch what his father is doing.

“It’s my health, it’s my body, I feel like this is what’s best for me and my family.” I like football, otherwise I would have stopped long ago.’

The first incident occurred during a game against the Buffalo Bills, where he appeared unsteady on his feet after hitting his head on a tackle.

He was assessed at the time and allowed to play. But in the next game, he was hit hard by the Bengals’ 6-foot, 340-pound Josh Tupou and went down with his hands in the fencing position.

He left that game on a stretcher in worrying scenes and was taken straight to the hospital. He suffered another concussion on Christmas Day against the Green Bay Packers – he was intercepted three times in that game, but did not show symptoms until the next day when he watched videos back.

Quarterbacks are rarely touched by other players during practice and are not given the same opportunities as other players to work on hitting the ground.
