Mia McKenna-Bruce reveals the adorable way her now-husband Tom Leach proposed to her with the help of a tick-box card and a pile of crumpets – after the pair tied the knot in Somerset

Mia McKenna-Bruce has revealed how cutely her current husband Tom Leach proposed to her after the couple married earlier this month.

The actress married her boyfriend, actor Tom, at a country house in Somerset, a year after they had their son Leo.

And the 27-year-old How to Have Sex star has now revealed how her boyfriend proposed to her, saying he made her her favourite breakfast and surprised her with a card.

Speaking with British Vogue About the wedding, Mia mused about the engagement when she said: ‘He made me a lovely breakfast of crumpets – because I love crumpets. Then he gave me a card, which is not really like Tom, he’s not really a man for romance and it said, “Are you ready to get married, yes or no?” with boxes to tick.’

Fast forward to the couple’s wedding day at Brympton House in Yeovil. Mia said that Tom had said in his speech that she had never actually ticked yes. ‘I was too busy shouting,’ she laughed.

The couple rented the entire 31-bedroom estate so her family and many actor friends could stay and celebrate their big day.

Mia had beautiful weather on her wedding day, but she says that’s no coincidence.

She said she and Tom had heard that burying a sausage the night before would bring a day of sunshine, so they decided it was worth a try. However, since they didn’t have any sausage on hand, they buried pepperoni from a slice of pizza instead.

Mia told us that Tom’s father used to be in a band and that she had previously asked him to sing at their wedding, but he couldn’t.

But despite his nerves, he surprised the bride with a performance of her favorite song Wonderwall.

‘Stealing the show’ was Leo, the couple’s son, who played hide-and-seek in Mia’s wedding dress.

Mia wore a veil and tiara with her long ivory dress, but it caught on a large black medical boot that is currently protecting her broken foot.

She danced to the song Sweet Caroline on the gravel facade of the monumental country house with her friends and her new husband, whom she met in 2019 on the set of The Rebels.

The house was featured in the 2022 Netflix adaptation of Jane Austen’s Persuasion, in which Mia starred opposite Dakota Johnson’s Anne Elliot as her younger sister, Mary Elliot.

Guests arrived on Saturday, ahead of the Sunday afternoon wedding ceremony, and stayed overnight at the exclusive venue, where wedding packages can cost up to £37,500.

The Witcher star was photographed sipping a mimosa in white pajamas and wearing a mask under her eyes as she got ready with her sister Anya and bridesmaids on the morning of the wedding.

In the morning, a pampering suite was provided for the bridal party to prepare for the big day. A Bucks Fizz breakfast was served with a four-course meal and after dinner, ‘midnight munchies’ were served.

The venue offered a £3,000 deposit for the flowers, a sparkler arch and the choice of a photo booth or Nightcap package.

The next day, Mia was seen in a green silk dress and sunglasses, lying on a large four-poster bed with her best friends. The photo was captioned: ‘We’re going to the post-wedding gathering.’

It’s been a turbulent year for the child star after she gave birth to son Leo in August last year and unexpectedly won BAFTA’s Rising Star Award in February.

Also in attendance was Hollyoaks star and fellow BAFTA winner Emily Burnett, who met Mia on the set of the CBBC Tracey Beaker spin-off, The Dumping Ground, in 2013.

Her How To Have Sex co-star Lara Peake was among the guests at the wedding, as were the show’s director Molly Manning Walker, make-up artist Dominique Desveaux and costume designers Nancy Kane and George Buxton.
