Mets broadcaster Keith Hernandez had some strange phrasing during an at-bat on Friday night.
Since Alejandro Kirk of the Blue Jays was at the plate in the top of the second inning, Hernandez was talking about batting in general when he gave some odd advice.
“You always want to be upright when you make contact,” said the two-time World Series champion.
His wisdom apparently did not resonate with co-commentators Gary Cohen and Ron Darling, as there was a long silence afterward.
After Kirk fouled a ball off his bat, Hernandez clarified, “like a telephone pole.”

The Mets struggled at the plate on Friday night, however, as they were shut out by Toronto en route to a 3-0 loss at Citi Field.
For the visitors, George Springer and Daulton Varsho homered in the first and ninth inning respectively when ex-Met Chris Bassitt threw 7 2/3 scoreless innings for the Blue Jays.
The loss comes after a promising three-game home sweep of the Phillies for the Mets.
New York is now 30-28 this season, good for second place in NL East.
