A worker on Western Australia’s Metronet rail project has died after being run over by a car.
Paramedics and police were called to Halliday Park in Bayswater, Perth, shortly after midday after reports a man had been hit by a vehicle.
The subcontractor was working on the site of Bayswater train station, which is just weeks away from completion.

Workers often relax in the park during their breaks and it is understood the man was lying down when he was hit by the car.

“We are aware of a tragic incident that occurred near the New Bayswater Station Project involving one of our team members,” a Metronet spokesperson said.
“The matter is currently under investigation by WA Police, but Metronet can confirm the incident did not occur at the New Bayswater Station Project workplace.”
Western Australia Police are investigating.
WA Construction, Forestry and Maritime Workers Union Secretary of State Mick Buchan offered his condolences to the family of the man, who he believed was a foreigner.
“We will make sure the family is taken care of,” he said.
