We can all collectively breathe a sigh of relief; Metroid Prime 4 is real, and the full title was revealed Metroid Prime 4 onwards during the June 18 Nintendo Direct presentation.
A title reveal isn’t all we have either. The game has been confirmed to release on Nintendo Switch in 2025, possibly eight years (eight!) since it was first revealed.
Some of the gameplay shows protagonist Samus Aran descending to a planet in her spacecraft before stepping behind her visor, confirming the latest game in the series. Prime subseries maintains that first-person perspective. The game looks absolutely beautiful too, no doubt pushing the Switch to its limits while maintaining a 60fps framerate.
Samus fights her way through various Space Pirate enemies and shows off iconic abilities from the series, such as her rockets, Morph Ball and Scan Visor. The 3D map can also be seen, which seems to confirm that the game will maintain the open exploration of the series.
Most interestingly, the trailer teases the return of Sylux, which debuted in Metroid Prime Hunters for the Nintendo DS and had a brief cameo Metroid Prime 3: Corruption end. He is flanked by a pair of Metroids, indicating that he was able to manifest their power against the Galactic Federation. With Dark Samus gone, it seems like Sylux will likely fill that primary antagonist role.
Datum Metroid Prime 4 Beyond With a 2025 release date, there’s a good chance it could also make the jump to the Switch’s successor, tentatively called the Nintendo Switch 2. Whether that will be its own version or an improved port remains to be seen before Nintendo shares anything about it. official details about the upcoming console.
