A signal failure on Thursday morning caused major delays across Melbourne’s train network.
From 4:45 a.m. on Thursday morning, all trains were stopped at all stations in the city, but were allowed to continue their route about 30 minutes later.
Commuters initially experienced delays of up to an hour, but by rush hour the delay had decreased to around 15 minutes.
Metro Trains urged passengers to allow extra travel time as some trains deviated from their normal schedule or were terminated.
The only route that was still ‘functioning well’ was the Baxter-Stoney Point line, along the Mornington Peninsula.
Remaining services in Melbourne experienced ‘minor delays’ and services on the Lilydale line were cancelled from 8:12am.
