Metallica were ‘banned from looking at Sir Mick Jagger’ when they supported The Rolling Stones

Metallica were ‘banned from watching Sir Mick Jagger’ when they supported The Rolling Stones in 2005, says drummer Lars Ulrich

Metallica were reportedly told ‘not to watch’ Sir Mick Jagger when they supported The Rolling Stones in 2005.

The heavy metal legends were the special guests at two of the rock’n’roll band’s concerts at Oracle Park in San Francisco.

There, a personal assistant would have ordered the rockers from Nothing Else Matters not to make eye contact or talk to the 79-year-old music icon.

On an episode of the “Club Random with Bill Maher” podcast, drummer and co-founder Lars Ulrich recalled, “So we’re backstage, and — and this isn’t a judgment on the Stones in any way, this is really more about us .

“At some point a personal assistant or whatever comes along and says, ‘Mick Jagger’s going to walk by here in a few minutes, he’s going to his private gym in his truck and he’s going to warm up for the show.

Disappointed: Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich (second from right) was not allowed to acknowledge his hero

“If he walks past here, don’t make eye contact with him or talk to him.”

He continued, ‘We’re sitting there going “what?!”‘

Mega Stones fan Lars was devastated that he couldn’t talk to his hero and only got a photo opportunity with Mick and co before taking the stage.

He said, ‘I had dreams, like, I thought, we’re gonna play with The Rolling Stones and you know where I’m gonna spend my whole time is in Keith Richards’ hotel room, sitting at one of those legendary parties’ ’til nine o’clock ‘in the morning.

‘I’ll be the last to leave! It wasn’t exactly like that.’

The 59-year-old sticksman insisted there was no other option for support slots at Metallica’s shows.

He added: ‘I always go and say hello to our support act: I look them in the eye, I ask them if they need anything.

‘It’s a human thing; when someone comes out and plays on a Metallica stage, I want them to feel at home.”

Stone crushing: Tina Turner, now 83, says she’s “always had a crush on Mick Jagger”; the pair introduced themselves at the July 1985 Live Aid concert in Philadelphia

However, other A-list stars who toured with The Stones have had more positive experiences.

Tina Turner – who joined them in 1966 – even recently admitted that she was ‘always in love with’ Sir Mick and loved the touring experience.

Now, at age 83 and living with her husband in Switzerland, Turner (née Anna Mae Bullock) said in a new interview with The protector: ‘I was always in love with Mike Jagger. I loved it when we toured with the Rolling Stones.”

Turner has always been attracted to rockers like Jagger and David Bowie, but in an interview with Baz Bamigboye for the Daily Post in June 2017 she insisted that her relationships with the two superstar frontmen were always platonic, calling them “the brothers I never had.”

‘We never slept together; and they never approached me, because I think they somehow saw me as a role model,” she further revealed.
