Metallica announce first Australian tour in more than a decade

Metal giants Metallica stop Down Under as part of their M72 world tour, marking their first Australian shows in more than a decade.

The band, known for hits Master of Puppets and Enter Sandman, will perform five shows in Perth, Adelaide, Melbourne, Brisbane and Sydney in November 2025.

The rockers bring Evanescence – with hits Bring Me To Life and Going Under – as well as Suicidal Tendencies, best known for the hit Institutionalized.

The tour will mark the first time Metallica has hit Australian shores since 2013’s Soundwave festival, where they headlined alongside Linkin Park and Blink-182.

It follows a canceled Australian stadium tour in 2020, during which singer and rhythm guitarist James Hetfield had undergone rehab for addiction.

“As most of you probably know, our brother James has struggled with on-and-off addiction for years,” a statement read at the time.

‘Unfortunately, he has now had to follow another treatment program to work on his recovery again.

‘We fully intend to travel to your part of the world as soon as health and schedule permit. We’ll let you know as soon as possible.’

The Accor Stadium website confirmed that the infamous Snake Pit will be included on the tour, making you “part of the show and the closest place to the stage to see the band,” according to Metallica’s website.

There are also meet and greets on the programme, but die-hard fans can purchase an ‘I Disappear Ticket’.

The ticket allows fans to attend all six shows in Australia and New Zealand.

According to Accor Stadium, travel packages including tickets and hotel accommodation will also be available in four of the six cities.

The world tour started in April 2023 following the release of their latest album 72 Seasons.

The band’s first album, Kill ‘Em All – released in 1983 – contained heavy hits Jump In The Fire and Whiplash, but their 1986 record Master Of Puppets really made them the kings of metal.

Presales for the Australia and New Zealand dates go on sale next week, with a Vodafone and Commbank Yello Mastercard presale starting on October 30, followed by a Live Nation presale on November 1 and a general sale and Westfield Reserve sale on November 4.
