Metas Facebook, Messenger and Instagram are down worldwide, leaving hundreds of thousands of users without access to the social media platforms.
A source within Facebook told DailyMail.com that the company’s internal systems were also faulty, which may have led to Tuesday’s outage.
The issues appeared around 10:20 AM ET (3:20 PM GMT) and are affecting the apps and websites of all social media sites.
DownDetector, which monitors online outages, shows that hundreds of thousands of Americans are having problems with Facebook and tens of thousands reported the same with Instagram – Messenger has a few thousand problem reports.
Along with the US, the outage has also reached Britain, parts of Europe, China, Australia and Mexico.

The majority of problem reports mention problems with the apps: 72 percent for Facebook, 64 percent for Instagram and Messenger is at 50 percent.

Users have flocked to Elon Musk’s X to share their frustrations and ask if anyone else in the world is experiencing the same problems.
Some people experiencing problems initially thought their accounts had been hacked, but there are more than 80,000 messages on X about Facebook and Instagram being down.
Elon Musk responded to Meta’s outage with a message on X: “If you are reading this message, it is because our servers are working.”
Meta’s services dashboard, which lists the services, continues to show major disruptions for some features, but has subsequently switched to ‘Unknown’ for completely or completely blank.
While the Facebook insider told DailyMail.com that the issue stemmed from internal tools, the public has shared their speculation about X.
Some have suggested that the outage is a “cyber attack,” as is the case on Super Tuesday, the day when several states will hold presidential primaries.
While the reason for the outage remains unclear, it comes three years after Facebook experienced a seven-hour blackout that cost the company an estimated $100 million in lost revenue.
The global outage – which affected Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp and Messenger – was caused by a faulty update that disconnected servers from the internet, meaning technicians had to travel to the Santa Clara data center to resolve the outage in person.
But the repair was postponed, according to an insider posting on Reddit, due to “lower staffing levels in data centers due to pandemic measures.”
The outage, which led to calls for major tech companies to be broken up, also knocked out the messaging services that remote workers use to communicate. Those who knew how to fix the servers were unable to get that information to the teams within the organization. data center, the insider said.
Also disabled were the key fob systems at Facebook’s main campus in Menlo, meaning those who had been WFH but rushed back to the office were unable to enter, while those already inside were unable to access meeting rooms and other areas requiring a pass was necessary.
