Meta is back online: Instagram, Facebook and WhatsApp all suffered a major global outage
Meta suffered a global outage that affected Instagram, Facebook, WhatsApp, Threads and Messenger.
Users from across the US reported issues with the apps and websites as of around 1:00 PM ET.
Meta announced at 5.30pm: ‘We’re 99% of the way – just doing some final checks. We apologize to those affected by the outage.”
Downdetector, a site that monitors online disruptions, received more than 130,000 complaints for the platforms.
Great Britain and parts of Europe, Asia, Australia and South America are also experiencing problems.

The most commonly reported issues for Facebook, Instagram and Threads were the app, website and server connection.
While Messenger and WhatsApp users say there are issues with the app, logging in and sending messages.
On Downdetector, Facebook showed more than 100,000 problem reports, Instagram 62,000, Messenger 10,000, WhatsApp 11,000 and Threads 871.
Users have flocked to Elon Musk’s X to share their frustrations over Meta’s service outages, with many criticizing CEO Mark Zuckerberg.
“Elon Musk to Mark Zuckerberg: ‘You’re sinking my friend,’” one user shared on X.
Another wrote: “Mark Zuckerberg needs to work on this because it’s happening too often.”
There were several memes showing Zuckerberg downloading X due to the meta glitch.
Meta’s last outage happened in October, taking out Facebook, Messenger, and Instagram.
