Meta has been hit by a major outage, disabling service for Facebook, Messenger, and Instagram users in the US.
Tens of thousands of Americans are experiencing problems with the apps and websites.
Downdetector, a site that monitors online outages, shows that issues occurred on Mark Zuckerberg’s platforms around 1:00 PM ET.
Users report being logged out of their accounts and seeing a “session expiring” message.

The problem reports submitted to Downdetector shows that a majority of Facebook users cannot log into accounts (63 percent), followed by problems with the website (27 percent) and then the server connection fails (10 percent).
About 75 percent of Instagram attrition is caused by the app, followed by the website (14 percent) and logging into accounts (10 percent).
And 78 percent of Messenger users cannot log in, 17 percent cannot send messages and just under four percent do not receive messages.
Major cities such as Los Angeles, New York City, Dallas, Tamp and Boston have reported problems with all three social media networks.
Users have shared their frustrations on another social media platform, Elon Musk’s X.
X user Bruce Wayne shared, “I love that the first thing you should do when Instagram is down is come here and make sure.”
Another user reported that their Facebook was “acting weird all day” and “blocking” certain posts.
Facebook has more than 11,000 problem reports at the time of writing, while Instagram has received more than 5,000 and Messenger has 1,050.
