Met Gala 2023: Elle Fanning looks like a spring bride in a lacy white dress
Elle Fanning glowed in a dress that would have been perfect for a bride as she walked the red carpet at the Met Gala on Monday.
The 25-year-old actress added some spring-appropriate touches, including a flower garden that referenced a photo shoot led by Karl Lagerfeld.
The Met Gala returned Monday night to the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, where everyone from Kim Kardashian to Paris Hilton was on hand to attend the annual fundraising event.
This year’s fundraiser is all about Lagerfeld and is subtitled A Line of Beauty. The late German designer, who passed away in 2019 at the age of 85, was Chanel’s creative director for a long time.
Her hypnotic lace dress was designed by Andreas Kronthaler for Vivienne Westwood and featured an off-the-shoulder design with a train that trailed behind her.

The Neon Demon star contrasted the lacy number with a modestly cropped long-sleeved black jacket.
She accessorized with a sparkling gold chain, along with a chunky gold ring.
The blonde beauty wore her long hair in delicate waves that fell gently over her chest.
She kept to the spring theme with a bouquet of daisies she carried.
The Great Star had more of the flowers in her crown, to which black bows were tied.
In an Instagram post from earlier Monday, Elle explained that she wore the crown because she had worn a similar item to a photo shoot for Chanel curated by Lagerfeld, which was one of her favorite moments in the presence of the late designer.
“When I first heard that the MET Ball theme was a tribute to Karl Lagerfeld, I started thinking about memories we shared together. The memory that stood out was when he photographed me for his book ‘Little Black Jacket’. I was 13,” she recalls.
“Everyone in the photo was wearing the same black Chanel jacket, and while we all wore the same thing, Karl let our individual styles and personalities dictate how the jacket should be worn. For my portrait he decided to put a daisy crown on my head and put the jacket on over the white dress I arrived in.’
Earlier on Monday, Elle was spotted leaving her hotel on her way to the Met Gala.

Despite Elle’s fondness for Lagerfeld, this year’s decision to honor the late designer has sparked controversy, given the many offensive comments he’s made over the years, from slamming the #MeToo movement to opposing gay marriage.
“I’m against it for a very simple reason: in the ’60s they all said we were entitled to the difference. And now they suddenly want a civilian life,” he said Shame of same-sex marriage.
‘It’s hard to imagine – one of the daddies at work and the other at home with the baby. What would that be like for the baby? Don’t know. I see more lesbians married with babies than boys married with babies. And I also believe more in the relationship between mother and child than in that between father and child.’
Lagerfeld was in an 18-year relationship with Jacques de Bascher, who died of AIDS in 1989, though the model legend claimed they were strictly platonic all these years.
While Lagerfeld eventually expressed his support for gay marriage at his Chanel haute couture show in the spring of 2013, he still said he was “less enthusiastic” about adopting same-sex children, according to the Associated Press.
Along with Vogue Editor-in-Chief Anna Wintour, who directs and hosts the annual event, the 2023 MET Gala will also be co-hosted by Penelope Cruz, Dua Lipa, Michaela Coel and Roger Federer.
While the show may be known for its glitzy and over-the-top red carpet — detailing what often remains mysterious inside — at its heart, it’s a fundraising event for the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute.
Last year, the 2022 MET gala alone raised a total of $17.4 million, reportedly Billboard.
This year, the entry fee has increased from $30,000 to $50,000, according to Page six.

Even those with the cash aren’t guaranteed entry to the party, though many of the guests are sponsored by fashion houses who foot the bill for their tickets.
Every guest must be invited and there is a waiting list for the coveted golden ticket.
And status matters, according to The New York Timesmeaning the hottest stars are a shoo-in for an invite.
Paris Hilton is one of the big names attending what will be her first Met Gala.
Meanwhile, Blake Lively, a frequent visitor, announced that she will not be at the party.
“I’ll look,” she said, according People.
Elle Fanning, Kim Kardashian and La La Anthony are among the other celebrities in attendance.
As for Wintour’s role in the bash, Vogue’s editor-in-chief hosts the party and oversees the guest list and even the menu.
She has been the president of the Met Gala since 1994 and continues to stand guard at every event.
