- Mesut Özil made a joke on social media at the expense of Leonardo DiCaprio
- DiCaprio had jokingly asked 'what is Arsenal' during a recent awards ceremony
- 'There is no greater waste of time!' What is the point of the Club World Cup? It all starts
Mesut Ozil has taken to social media to make a joke at Leonardo DiCaprio's expense after the actor admitted he knew nothing about football.
DiCaprio was at an event in London's Leicester Square when he and his Killers of the Flower Moon co-star Lily Gladstone tackled the subject of the beautiful game.
After suggesting that top-level football players are a higher caliber athlete than top NBA stars, DiCaprio commented: “Better than Michael Jordan? The best basketball player ever!'
The Academy Award winner then playfully asked: 'what is Arsenal?', a question that has since spread widely on social media.
DiCaprio's comment was almost certainly a joke, as he had previously announced his conversion to the sport after his godson convinced him to attend the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, and has since been pictured attending Champions League matches.

The comment caught the attention of former Gunners star Ozil, who couldn't help but join in the chatter online.
'Arsenal football club is over 25 years old… so why should he know that?' Ozil wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.
The joke stems from a theory shared online that the Titanic star's relationships over the years have historically ended before his girlfriends turned 25.
Ozil made more than 250 appearances in all competitions for the Gunners during an eight-year spell at the club, having joined from Real Madrid for £42.5 million in the summer of 2013.
The 35-year-old won four FA Cups during his time in north London and scored 19 assists for the Gunners in the 2015/16 Premier League season, which is still a club record.
After falling out of favor at the Emirates, Ozil spent two years at Fenerbache, followed by a short spell at Istanbul Basaksehir before announcing his retirement from professional football in March.
