Meshel Laurie admits she can’t stand looking at old photos of herself when she was ’60kg heavier’ before she lost drastic weight from gastric bypass surgery
Media personality Meshel Laurie has made headlines in recent years for her extreme weight loss.
And now the outspoken star, 49, has admitted she doesn’t like seeing old photos of herself from when she was heavier.
Discussing the topic on her new podcast Can we be real?Meshel that she and her daughter Dali jokingly refer to her old selves as “Aunt Pat.”
“We don’t like Aunt Pat,” she explained. ‘When I see pictures of myself, especially when I was 60 kg heavier, Dali and I say, ‘Ooh, look at Aunt Pat!’
“Oh shit, that was Aunt Pat in that picture and we don’t like that.”

Meshel also admitted that she no longer has old photos of herself in the house.
Unlike many other Australian celebrities, Meshel has always been open and honest about losing weight through gastric bypass surgery, which she underwent in 2016.
“People always say, “How did you lose weight?” Everyone is always obsessed with that. That’s why I never lie about it,” she said on her podcast.
The project’s former host previously discussed the surgery in her bestseller, Buddhism for Incredibly Busy People.

Meshel said she refers to her old rounder self as “Aunt Pat” and doesn’t keep old photos of herself around the house
“Yes, it’s embarrassing to have to go to such lengths to control my body, but I’d rather be embarrassed than not be able to walk,” she wrote.
“In a way, I’m lucky to have gotten such clear signals from my body that I had to turn my health burner back on, when I still had time to do something about it.”
The notoriously private star rarely attends red carpet events, but her drastic weight loss is evident in a handful of social media photos taken over the past two years.
In 2021, she humbly praised one of her slim photos, calling a “good photographer” when a fan gushed about her slimming down.

Meshel had a successful career in commercial television and radio until she switched to podcasting.
She currently hosts Australia’s largest true crime podcast, which has been downloaded over 65 million times since its launch in 2017.
The star has now launched a new comedy podcast called Can We Be Real?, which leans towards her outspoken and opinionated side.
