Meryl Streep comes out to support the theater at the opening night of Pictures From Home on Broadway

While she hasn’t set foot on a Broadway stage in years, Meryl Streep still supports the stage, arriving at the opening night premiere of Pictures From Home.

The 73-year-old New Jersey native was all smiles in a colorful ensemble on the red carpet, with the premiere held at Studio 54 in New York City.

The actress, who just took part in season 3 of Hulu’s Only Murders in the Building last month, was one of many stars on the red carpet, including her new co-stars Steve Martin and Martin Short, to name a few.

Streep stepped out in a black dress shirt with small white print designs, under a black coat.

She wore black glasses and small gold earrings, with a black bag slung over her shoulder.

She completed her look with bright red pants and shiny black shoes for the red carpet event.

Streep began her career on the stage, first in high school, then at Vassar College, and then the Yale School of Drama, where she received her MFA in 1975.

She starred in Trelawny of the Wells opposite Mandy Patinkin and John Lithgow and Measure for Measure with John Cazale, with whom she was romantically involved for two years before her death in 1978.

While she continued to work on Broadway regularly through the late 1970s, she revealed that Robert De Niro’s performance in Taxi Driver had such an impact on her that she began auditioning for movies.

She finally starred opposite De Niro just two years later, playing his girlfriend in 1978’s Best Picture-winning The Deer Hunter, which launched his film career.

He returned to the stage for the first time in over 20 years in 2001 in The Public Theater’s revival of Anton Chekov’s The Seagull.

Streep most recently starred in Don’t Look Up, nominated for Best Picture in 2021, and also returns to the small screen in Apple TV Plus’ Extrapolations.

He stars alongside Eiza González, Tobey Maguire, Marion Cotillard, Forest Whitaker, Edward Norton, Murray Bartlett, Heather Graham, Keri Russell, Diane Lane, Kit Harington, Gemma Chan, Sienna Miller, Indira Varma, and Judd Hirsch.
