Locals were outraged after lazy city workers repaved a suburban street around parked cars, leaving large gaps in the road.
Merri-Bek City Council commissioned workers to repave Melbourne’s McBryde Street in Fawkner on January 4.
A notice had been sent to neighborhood mailboxes days before to keep their cars off the road, but everyone got the message.

So when the road crew showed up to put new tar down and found there were cars parked on the side of the road, they just decided to keep going.
Since then, the Merri-bek Board has issued a humiliating apology for the awkward mistake, as taxpayers express their frustration at the waste of money.
“It seems a bit stupid,” local resident Patt Gibbs told 9News.
Another local, Monica Hodgkinson, said: “The street is probably in worse shape than it was when it started.”
“It’s disappointing, because now the street is a mess.”

A council spokesman admitted the job was far from ideal and locals were not given enough time to move their car.
We apologize to the residents for the inconvenience.
“We took the opportunity to complete these jobs more quickly when resources were available, which resulted in less notice to residents.”
Workers will return to finish the job in the coming weeks, but no official date has been set.
