Parkville, Melbourne: Couple in allegedly stolen Mercedes lead police on wild car chase

A couple were allegedly caught on Dashcam footage stealing a Mercedes before leading police on a wild car chase and crashing into a car.

A 28-year-old woman and a 40-year-old man were arrested after the Ford Ranger collision in Parkville, Melbourne’s north, just after 9am on Monday.

The pair are said to have stolen the Mercedes from a closed car park when they were suddenly attacked by police.

An officer yelled at the pair to get out of the vehicle, but instead they allegedly ditched the vehicle and drove away from police, resulting in a wild chase.

A 28-year-old woman and a 40-year-old man were arrested after the Ford Ranger collision in Parkville, Melbourne’s north, just after 9am on Monday.

The woman encouraged her partner behind the wheel to “go baby go!” to say.

The car then turned into the street at high speed and swerved to avoid colliding head-on with a tram.

“How’s that for driving, honey? Doing well or something?’ the man said.

The woman replied, “Good boy. Take us away.’

The woman then said she was concerned about the police aerial patrols before her partner said one of the tires was blown and they had to get out and run.

The Mercedes is said to have occasionally veered to the wrong side of the road and driven through red lights, while the man bragged about his driving skills.

“That was crazy driving honey, that was bad driving honey,” he said.

‘Luckily I got out of there when I did without a single scratch on the car. They’ll think to themselves this son of a bitch can drive.”

When he realized police had overtaken them, the man accelerated down the road but reportedly failed to stop at a traffic light when it turned red.

The Mercedes was then T-boned by a black Ford Ranger, causing the couple to crash into nearby parked cars.

A woman and a man were then run from the vehicle and attempted to enter a locked property before police responded to the pair.

Victoria Police said a 40-year-old man was charged with several offenses including driving while disqualified, conduct endangering life and theft of a motor vehicle.

The 28-year-old woman was suspected of theft of a motor vehicle.

Both will appear in court later this year.
