Melonba, Sydney hit and run: Man is killed

A manhunt is underway for a driver after a man was killed in an alleged collision in Sydney’s west.

Emergency services rushed to Abell Road in Melonba – a Blacktown suburb about 51km northwest of Sydney’s CBD – about 11.45pm on Sunday after reports that a man had been injured on the side of the road.

Emergency workers desperately tried to save the man, believed to be in his late 70s, but he died at the scene.

The man has not yet been formally identified.

Officers have cordoned off a crime scene and investigators from the Crash Investigation Unit have conducted a forensic examination of the area.

Police believe the man was struck by a black sedan traveling eastbound.

A report will be prepared for the coroner.
