Melissa Doyle shares touching tribute to David Koch as he announces his departure from Sunrise

Melissa Doyle has shared a sweet tribute to her former Sunrise co-host David Koch after he announced he was quitting the breakfast show on Monday.

The Channel Seven presenter, 53, posted a throwback photo on Instagram of her and her former colleague alongside a touching message.

“This is to remember the laughs, tears, experiences, embarrassing moments and highlights, the amazing loyal viewers and the incredible team,” Melissa wrote.

Congratulations @kochie_online on 21 years @sunriseon7. So proud to be part of it. Enjoy those late risers.’

She also posted a photo of the couple with John Mayer on the set of Sunrise, writing, “Congratulations Kochie 21 years.”

Kochie has been inundated with well wishes from friends, family and fans, but one of his most famous former colleagues, Samantha Armytage, has kept quiet about the news.

Samantha, who sat on the bench alongside Kochie for seven years, has not publicly commented on his departure after lingering rumors of a feud between Sam and her former co-stars.

After the network shared a video of Kochie’s announcement on social media, many of his friends congratulated him on his career.

“I can’t wait to see what happened to you next.

What an incredible career at dawn,” model Erin Holland commented on the post.

Sunrise presenter Katie Brown said: ‘I’m not angry… I’m just so sad. You are the best of the best Kochie. Congratulations, we will miss you so much.’

Kochie told Daily Mail Australia that he has yet to check all of his text messages, but he confirmed that he has received one from his other old co-host Mel, Sam’s predecessor.

“I just checked because I have a lot of messages, I saw one from Mel and I’m sure there will be a lot of others in the list, but I’ve spoken to a lot of journalists and done interviews. ,’ he said.

In 2021, Samantha quickly addressed Natalie Barr’s promotion to co-host following her departure from the show.

She criticized Natalie on Twitter at the time for continuing to speak about her to the press three months after taking over as anchor of Seven’s breakfast show.

‘Look, I’m out. Nat always wanted the job… and she finally got it. She should just go ahead and enjoy it – and forget about me (even though I’m unforgettable),’ she wrote.

Meanwhile, Kochie struggled to hold back tears during his farewell speech on Monday.

“I’ve loved every minute of it and I’m incredibly proud of what we’ve accomplished here over the last 21 years,” Kochie told viewers.

“I started here before Facebook, before Instagram, before Twitter and iPhones. That’s how old I am.

“I’ve been privileged to have so many great adventures, to meet so many different people and to have so many moments of history in the making.”

Natalie told her co-host, “The show wouldn’t be what it is today without you. It was a great ride and we will be celebrating for the next two weeks.”

The host has been a familiar face on Australian television screens since 2002 when he started at the Sunrise agency.

Kochie has been hosting Sunrise with Natalie since 2022, following the departure of his former co-host Samantha after nearly 10 years.

Before that, he shared the desk at ‘Brekky Central’ with Melissa.

On 21 August, it was announced that Melissa was parting ways with Channel Seven after 25 years.
