Man, 23, drowns after he was swept into Melbourne’s Yarra River rapids just days after four died in beach tragedy at Phillip Island
Emergency services have recovered the body of a 23-year-old man who went missing after being swept away by the current into treacherous rapids.
The man was swimming with friends in Melbourne’s Yarra River, in North Warrandyte in the city’s northeast, at 7.20am on Sunday when strong currents swept him away.
The body of the man from Wantirna South was found at around 1.30pm following an extensive search by the Police Air Wing, Search and Rescue Squad and the State Emergency Service.
The death brings Victoria’s death toll from drowning to 20 after four people died after being pulled from the water on Phillip Island.
