Melbourne’s Clayton South Jewish community is ‘living in fear’ after sickening threat is spray-painted outside homes

The Jewish community is living in fear after a virulent anti-Semitic threat was spray-painted outside a city block.

A row of mailboxes said in pink ‘Kill Jews’ and ‘Jew lives here’ Nieuwpoortweg, in Clayton South, Melbourne, on Thursday.

A local Jewish woman, too scared to be identified, told Ny Breaking Australia that the increase in anti-Semitic attacks Down Under since the outbreak of war in the Middle East is deeply worrying.

“This is our home and we hear people on the street saying they want to kill us just because of who we are,” she said.

‘This is the first time in twenty years that I have felt unsafe in my own home.’

‘Kill Jews’ and ‘Jew lives here’ was written in pink on a row of letterboxes on Newport Road, in Clayton South, Melbourne, on Thursday

The woman added that Australia needs to “wake up” to the toxic hatred directed at Jews.

“If someone wrote something about another community, it wouldn’t be so quiet,” she said.

A Victoria Police spokeswoman told Ny Breaking they are not aware of any notification to officers about the vile message.

A spokesperson for the City of Kingston confirmed that the post has now been removed by staff after Ny Breaking alerted the council to the post on Thursday.

The spike in anti-Semitic incidents comes amid the conflict between Israel and Hamas.

The Palestinian terror group launched a wave of attacks on Israel on October 7, killing 1,400 civilians. More than 200 people were also kidnapped by Hamas and taken to Gaza.

Israel subsequently declared war on Hamas and bombed Gaza with air strikes, killing approximately 1,000 people 11,000 people – including more than 4,500 children.

There has been a wave of anti-Semitic incidents in Australia as fighting continues in the Middle East.

Pro-Palestinian protesters last month chanted “f*** Israel” and “gas the Jews” on the steps of the Sydney Opera House.

Just days later, a construction worker was charged for threatening to kill a group of teenagers flying an Israeli flag in Sydney.

On Sunday, a cyclist flying an Israeli flag was attacked by a woman and two men outside a cafe in Melbourne’s south-east.

There have also been numerous other ugly incidents across Australia in which Jews and pro-Israel supporters have been targeted.

Since hostilities began, six former Australian prime ministers have signed an open letter calling for an end to the vilification of people on all sides of the conflict.
