Melbourne woman hosts an all-black, funeral-themed 30th birthday party to mourn the end of her 20s
An Australian woman has said a dramatic goodbye to her 20s by throwing a hilarious funeral-themed 30th birthday party.
Alexandra Duffin mourned her third decade on earth surrounded by her loved ones, who gathered at her Melbourne home to pay their respects for the last decade of her life.
The content creator spent $1,000 to outfit her party with all-black decorations, including balloons, roses and birthday cake. She even had food in the form of a box and a sign on the door that read, “In memory of Alexandra’s twenties.”
Friends and family attending the event arrived in all black attire – some even with veils – and they were all asked to visit a remembrance table, where they were asked to bury the memories they made with Alexandra in their twenties.

After posting the video to TikTok, she said, “I love being different and unique, and this was definitely an iconic me moment to make this a theme.
“The purpose of this theme was to bury my twenties and grow into a mature young woman who would be in her thirties.
‘It was a great day full of family and lots of laughter around the theme. It brought everyone together and it was the best birthday party I’ve ever had!
‘I’m sad, but I’m also ready to start working in my thirties.
“I feel like I’ve started a trend and inspired so many people, and I love it because it’s iconic, and the meaning behind it is deeper than people think – it definitely puts a smile on my face.”
To set the mood that the party also presented, there was a black background with a black balloon garland, 30 black balloons, a frame on the door that read: ‘In loving memory of Alexandra’s twenties’, black roses, candlesticks and rose petals and balloons hung from the ceiling with Polaroids of Alexandra as a young baby.
Alexandra’s favorite food was chicken cutlets, fries, salad, a taco station and spanakopita (a Greek dish).
