Melbourne’s Asyai Luk, charged with the death of her sister Anong Luk, will stand trial

- Her sister, 22, is due to stand trial next month
A woman accused of beating and killing her sister after a roadside argument and then driving off should face criminal charges.
Asyai Luk, 22, was charged with dangerous driving resulting in death and failure to stop and provide assistance during the November 2022 attack.
She was behind the wheel when her sister, Anong Luk, 24, was dragged and pinned between two vehicles in western Melbourne.
Luk’s lawyer tried to argue on Monday that her charges should be dropped, saying the incident was a “creepy occurrence” and an accident that neither sister could have foreseen.
It is alleged that Asyai Luk (pictured) drove an SUV and accelerated when Anong Luk tried to enter. She is due to appear in court on September 26 over the death of her sister

“She got caught in the door unexpectedly,” said attorney Peter Morrissey.
But the prosecutor thought she should stand trial, as the 24-year-old died in the context of a heated argument and Luk had left with the car door open.
Both sides had different interpretations of videos from the scene.
Magistrate Brett Sonnet thought the videos were ‘open to different interpretations’ and decided that Luk should stand trial.
“Ms. Luk, you are ordered to stand trial in the County Court,” he told the court on Tuesday.
He asked her how she pleaded the three charges, and she replied “not guilty” from the front row of the courtroom.
Her bail was amended to include that she is prohibited from driving a motor vehicle, from leaving Australia and from speaking to prosecution witnesses.
She will appear before the County Court on September 26.
