Melbourne Storm skipper Harry Grant is being hailed as a hero after he rescued two swimmers struggling near some rocks on a Queensland beach on Wednesday.
Grant, 26, was surfing at First Bay Beach on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast about noon after a tough season that included the NRL Grand Final with the Melbourne Storm.
Grant saw two teenagers struggling under the conditions and quickly intervened, potentially helping to prevent several drownings.
Grant received praise on social media from supporters including David Begley, whose son Riley was at the beach.
“My son and his friends were there and they [two swimmers] got into a rift,” he told Ny Breaking Australia.
‘Harry paddled quickly to his board and helped them.
‘The boys then had a good chat with him, what a great guy he is.’
Kellie Metcalfe – another parent of the group of struggling boys – labeled the dummy half ‘a legend’ and thanked Grant for helping and talking to the starry-eyed youngsters.

Many footy fans were keen to shower footy star Harry Grant with his good deed
“I saw this guy [Grant] bring in a young guy who was struggling in the water near some rocks back to the beach on his surfboard. Absolute legend,” footy fan Bradley Norris also posted on the Melbourne Storm Rugby League Facebook page.
A talented surfer, Grant has a background in junior nippers at Yeppoon SLSC, northeast of Rockhampton in Central Queensland.
This isn’t the first time Grant has been a hero in the ocean, either.
On Christmas Day 2016, Grant was holidaying with his family at Oxley Beach in Port Macquarie on the NSW north coast.
A mother and daughter became entangled in a dangerous rip and were swept out to sea.
Grant and his father came to the rescue, and the family was forever grateful, as the child was not a strong swimmer.
After making his NRL debut with the Melbourne Storm in 2018, Grant has become the code’s top No. 9.
He was part of his team’s Grand Final defeat in October, scoring the first try of the match, which Penrith won 14–6.
