Melbourne Storm 12-26 Canterbury Bulldogs: Craig Bellamy goes nuclear on his NRL side

Angry Craig Bellamy lashes out at ‘lack of effort’ from his Storm side after humiliating loss to Bulldogs as bewildered Melbourne boss insists he did NOT see the boil coming: ‘They were doing EVERYTHING better than us’

Craig Bellamy has lashed out at his Melbourne players after Canterbury embarrassed them at AAMI Park on Saturday.

In what is an early contender for the weekend’s shock result, the Bulldogs were 26 points ahead with 20 minutes to go against a shaken Storm side, who managed to score two late consolation tries.

After facing the Parramatta Eels last weekend, Bellamy was bitterly disappointed by his team’s “lack of effort” on Saturday night, and was baffled in his post-match press conference.

“Lack of effort, it was really poor,” he said. It’s what we pride ourselves on.

‘At the beginning of the game they were much more excited than us, they were doing everything better than us. We were miles apart.

‘I did not see him coming. Our areas of effort were really good last week, but very disappointing today. We were far from our best today. We just lacked effort.

‘At the end of the day, sometimes you’re not going to win, but we should have been a lot better than we were tonight.

‘I didn’t see it coming, we had a good week of training. The areas of effort compared to last week were chalk and cheese.

More to follow.
