Melbourne Show rollercoaster victim Shayla Rodden targeted by trolls as she wakes up from coma

Ruthless online trolls have launched a savage attack on a young woman who woke up from a medically induced coma two months after she was hit by a roller coaster.
Shylah Rodden, 26, suffered brain damage and serious injuries to her pelvis, arms, legs and back when she was struck by the Rebel Coaster roller coaster at the Royal Melbourne Show on September 25.
The ride crashed into her at 70 km/h and threw her thirty feet into the air while apparently trying to retrieve her phone from under the tracks.
She was placed in an induced coma until she was revived last week when her condition stabilized and she moved from a high dependency ward to a normal one.
However, Ms. Rodden is still unable to communicate with her family and faces years of rehabilitation.
Online detectives have coldly blamed Shylah for the tragedy after police claimed she had been beaten while trying to retrieve her mobile phone.
But the news of her awakening from her coma has been mocked in cruel comments, many of them so brutal that Daily Mail Australia has chosen not to publish them.
The shocking comments were published in online news reports about Ms Rodden’s improving health, which were criticized by other horrified users.
Online trolls have launched a savage attack on Shylah Rodden, who woke up from a medically induced coma two months after being hit by a roller coaster.
Shylah Rodden is understood to have been struck by the Rebel Coaster carriage, traveling at 70km/h, while trying to retrieve her phone from under the tracks, as apparently caught on video (pictured).
While Shylah’s condition was reclassified by the hospital, her devastated family told Daily Mail Australia that they were still seriously concerned about her situation.
“She had suffered a severe traumatic brain injury, so if that’s what people think is stable, they’re wrong,” said Shylah’s younger sister, Caisha Rodden.
Just because she’s awake doesn’t mean she’s stable.
The chances of her ever having a normal life again are slim to impossible, and it is feared that she may never be able to speak.
On the day she was beaten, Ms. Rodden was working at a friend’s booth at the show when the couple decided to go to some games during their break.
It is believed that he dropped his phone while on the roller coaster. Investigators believe he walked under the high-speed ride tracks to retrieve the device.
A gruesome video of the incident appears to show Ms Rodden in the path of the roller coaster car just before it crashed into her.
Online trolls have now pounced on the update on her condition and have unleashed fresh torrents of hate on her after first attacking her when the tragic accident occurred.
Shocking comments cannot be published for legal reasons.

Others came to her defense, lashing out at the trolls for attacking Ms Rodden, who is now facing life-changing injuries.
“All the people with their negative and unnecessary assumptions and comments need help,” said one.
‘Nobody cares if their family and friends read them. Seriously, I’m sure you wouldn’t like it if it was someone you know.
‘I hope karma catches up with each of you…’
Another slammed: ‘We all get it – stupid of you to get your phone back while the trip was still going!
‘It’s been said a thousand times in every post about this story… But geez, does anyone have compassion?
He had a momentary lack of judgment and made a mistake that changed his life and the lives of his family forever. Extremely difficult situation to be in.
‘We all make mistakes. The lack of empathy from people amazes me.’
WorkSafe is investigating the circumstances behind the tragedy with the help of detectives from the Yarra Criminal Investigation Unit.
The investigation revealed that there were no technical problems with the roller coaster. The ride that hit her was reopened a few days after the incident.

Royal Melbourne Show said at the time: ‘The safety and well-being of our show visitors remains our number one priority.
‘Strict security protocols are maintained in accordance with Victorian WorkSafe standards.
“All attractions on the site have undergone strict compliance inspections and have passed all required safety documentation.”
Show management declined to comment on whether any new safety procedures had been put in place in the wake of the accident.
Shylah’s father told Daily Mail Australia in October that his daughter had suffered life-changing injuries.
“I can’t talk to my daughter,” she said. The wounds are horrible. Horrific. She has brain damage.
It is the pelvis, the arms, the legs, the back, the neck; there is almost nothing that is not broken. I just can’t understand how the hell so much damage has been done.
Even the doctors have said that they haven’t seen anything as bad as this in a long time.

Daily Mail Australia revealed in October that Shylah had turned her life around after a troubled few years that saw her struggle with substance abuse and car accidents in 2018, 2019 and 2021.
“Shylah is not a drug addict, she has been in rehab for almost a year,” said her friend who asked to remain anonymous.
“But people are so focused on her previous car accident where she wasn’t even the driver. Her problems were five years ago. People change.’
The cruel comment online about Shylah’s accident has added salt to the wounds of her devastated family, who have fought for years to help her through her battles.
“They are so horrible,” her friend said of the trolls.
It’s like people don’t have anything better to do.
