A man has been charged with a string of offences, hours after he allegedly pushed an elderly woman onto the tracks in front of shocked commuters at one of Melbourne’s busiest train stations.
Emergency services were called to Richmond station on Wednesday afternoon after a woman was reportedly pushed off the platform.
Bystanders came to the aid of the 64-year-old woman and pulled her back onto the platform, while the man reportedly fled.
She was taken to Alfred Hospital in stable condition, but his life is not in danger.
According to police, she did not know her alleged attacker.
The incident caused major delays at train stations in the CBD during the evening rush hour.
A 54-year-old man from Werribee was arrested in Southbank on Thursday morning.
The man was charged with conduct endangering life, conduct causing serious injury, reckless conduct causing injury and unlawful assault on a woman.

He has also been charged with multiple unrelated crimes, including burglary, theft, aggravated burglary, trespassing, assault and making death threats.
The remaining charges relate to two recent break-ins and thefts at businesses in Footscray and an aggravated burglary at a Southbank hotel on Thursday morning prior to his arrest.
He was remanded in custody will appear in court in Melbourne next Friday.
