Rent in Melbourne for $270 sparks outrage: ‘Not just terrible, but delusional’
A rental ad has sparked outrage, with one person labeling it “not only horrid but delusional” after realizing what was actually on offer.
The ad, shared on the Facebook group two weeks ago, appears to show an apparently normal two-bedroom, one-bathroom apartment in Little Collins in Melbourne’s CBD.
It is close to train stations and trams, the housemates are described as ‘clean, tidy individuals’ and internet and utilities are free.
And at just $270 a week, it seems like a bargain in an area where average rent is nearly double that of around $500 a week.
But eagle-eyed applicants saw that the room offered has a big catch: you have to share it with someone else.

‘Looking for 1 female to share 2nd room (2pp in room including you),’ the ad reads.
“Total 3 people in the house, $270/week/person.”
In the room in question, there are two single beds – one smaller than the other – separated by a small bedside table.
It is the smaller bed that is offered.
Prospective applicants were baffled by the list, with one labeling it “not only horrific but delusional.”
“I’m going to say this, you are disgusting for (sic) trying to get someone to rent a goddamn bed,” one said.
“Tell me you’ve been deceived without telling me,” another wrote.
One simply called the entry “disgusting,” while another described it as “highly exploitative.”
Daily Mail Australia reached out to the person who listed the bed for comment.
