Machete-armed thugs go on a 200kmh rampage in Melbourne in a stolen BMW – before police ram it off the road during high-speed chase

Five youths have been arrested after allegedly leading police through Melbourne at high speed in an allegedly stolen BMW.

Police allege the boys were armed with machetes during the 24-hour string of robberies and cigarette thefts at various locations in the city.

The rampage came to a dramatic end late on Tuesday night when police rammed the suspected stolen BMW sedan on Wellington Parade in East Melbourne – near the MCG – causing it to stop.

It followed an hour-long chase through the city’s CBD and eastern suburbs, where the vehicle drove erratically at speeds of almost 120mph along East Link.

Police allege the black BMW sedan was stolen eight days earlier.

Officers spotted the car being driven in Boronia, on Melbourne’s eastern suburbs, about 10.25pm.

Assisted by the air wing, police tracked the vehicle as it drove erratically and dangerously through the CBD and eastern suburbs.

After the car was stopped, five youths were taken into custody and are assisting police with their investigation.

One had suffered minor injuries.

No charges had been filed as of Wednesday morning.

Anyone who witnessed the vehicle, has dashcam footage, CCTV or other information that could assist police is urged to call Crime Stoppers.
