Five teenagers have been arrested after allegedly breaking into a house and taking a stolen Mercedes for a joyride, sparking a wild police chase through Melbourne.
Police were called to the beachside suburb of Brighton shortly after midnight on Monday morning after reports of a serious burglary.
Residents who were home at the time disturbed an intruder who fled the scene before realizing their 2015 Mercedes Tourer had been stolen.
The Air Wing was deployed to track the luxury car spotted by police officers on the Nepean Highway towards the city.

The car is said to have reached speeds of up to 170km/h along St Kilda Road, Southbank Monash Freeway and over the Bolte Bridge.
The car then left the highway at Footscray Road and was later dumped in Yarraville Gardens.
Five teens reportedly fled the vehicle and jumped fences into backyards and various properties.
The Air Wing assisted local police and a Dog Squad unit in locating the teens in a coordinated response.

The fifth teen was arrested in a backyard.
Four men and one woman, all aged between 15 and 17, are currently assisting police with their investigation.
No charges have been filed yet.

Acting 3AW breakfast presenter Mark Allen witnessed part of the police chase on his way to work.
“I saw a car coming up behind me with its hazard lights on and it zoomed by,” he recalled.
“As it goes by, I notice there are children inside. We’re stopped at the traffic light when a police car turns right.’
‘The car drives away and twenty seconds later the police car zooms past me.’
He added that the Mercedes was a “beautiful” car.

Police believe another vehicle was used and dumped after crashing into a parked car.
