Melbourne explosion: Mysterious explosion rocks the city’s south-east just before midnight: ‘Deaths sounded like a bomb going off’

A mysterious explosion was heard in Melbourne’s south-east just before midnight on Tuesday.

Numerous people in the area took to social media to report a ‘loud bang’ and a stream of sirens.

At this time it is not yet clear what the cause of the explosion is and where it came from.

“Did anyone hear that loud bang in Melbourne’s south-east?” wrote one local on social media.

Another said: ‘That was some kind of explosion in East Bentleigh! Sirens galore now. Dead quiet, it sounded like a bomb went off.’

A third added: “I heard from me and I’m in McKinnon.. who cares?”
