A ‘home hacks guru’ has revealed the five easiest ways to deep clean children’s toys, which will instantly stop germs.
Chantel Mila, who goes by Mama Mila online, has two young children but says it’s easy to keep their toys as clean as her spotless home.
The Melbourne mum shared her five favorite tips on TikTok, where she has 1.4 million followers.
The first trick helps when it comes to thoroughly cleaning small, hard toys like Lego.
The mother simply sweeps the toy into a laundry bag and places it in the washing machine – before cold washing.
Her second tip, which also involves the washing machine, is for soft toys.
Mama Mila puts them on a gentle cycle with a cup of bi-carb soda. This deodorizes them and makes the toys soft.
The third tip works well if you can’t do without the cuddly toy for as long as it takes to go through the washing and drying cycle.
“You know how much I love my Mistral clothes steamer, and I use it to steam clean Mila’s stuffed animals to remove germs and dust mites between deep cleanings,” she said.
Her fourth tip is for non-electric toys that are a little too big or awkward for the first trick.

She simply puts them in the dishwasher on a short cycle, which cleans the hard-to-reach places.
This is perfect for clunky toys like cars, she explained.
And finally, if the toy needs a quick wipe down, she likes to mix half a cup of water with half a cup of cleaning vinegar.
