Shocking CCTV footage has emerged of the moment a man was hit and seriously injured by his own car as he tried to prevent it from being stolen.
The man was parked outside restaurants and bars on Melbourne’s busy Hardware Lane at around 3pm on Thursday when his car was hijacked and he was left in hospital fighting for his life.
The footage showed a man in a blue jacket riding a scooter and inspecting the red Ford 4WD.
The man in the blue jacket folded his scooter and put it in the car before jumping into the driver’s seat.
The victim and a woman, who were loading boxes into a cart in front of the car, noticed the man and tried to stop him from driving away.
But the thief just drove on, while the victim clung forcibly to the front of the car.
Shocked bystanders ran to the victim to help him, but the car continued driving, dragging the victim along at the front.
The man was rushed to the Royal Melbourne Hospital, where he remained in a critical condition on Thursday evening.
