Read the brutal review left for a trendy Melbourne cafe that ‘only serves flat whites’ branding staff ‘hipster t*ssers’ – but the owners have the last laugh
- Reviewer received a flat white instead of latte
- Punished the ‘hipster’ staff for not remaking
A Melbourne café has issued a ruthless one-star review labeling the staff as “hipster t*ssers” after the incident sparked a boom in business.
The cafe received the review after a customer was served a flat white instead of a latte, which he claimed the staff then refused to recreate.
He then warned that the venue would struggle to keep its doors open as he and his large office of colleagues would take their business elsewhere.
But the owner says the cafe thrived after the incident, despite other businesses being forced to close as operating costs skyrocketed alongside inflation.
A cafe in Melbourne has proudly framed and displayed a one-star review (pictured) penalizing their ‘hipster t*sser’ staff for not recreating its latte served as a flat white
A regular visitor to the cafe posted a photo of the framed review on Reddit to mixed opinions from fellow users.
“It’s a latte and a flat white. the difference is so marginal it seems like you’re crying over rock salt vs pink salt. get off your horse and drink your overly milky coffee,” one user wrote.
“That’s a lot of vitriol for 0.5 cm of foam,” wrote another.
Other users were more critical of the café’s efforts to frame the review rather than correct the order at the time.
“This isn’t ridiculous enough to frame. It leaves out too much context that could indeed warrant a cheeky review,” one user wrote.
“The whole thing makes this cafe look stupid,” wrote a second.
“I buy coffee 5 days a week for $6 each for 50 weeks give or take… if the service sucks and they piss off the customers I will just spend $1500 a year elsewhere,” a third wrote .
The reviewer stated that neither he nor his colleagues would return and the venue would struggle to keep its doors open, but business has been good since the incident
The boom of the business in the aftermath of the incident goes against the current trend of hundreds of family-run restaurants, cafes and shops across Australia going to the wall.
Some hospitality establishments have faced charges for all of their operating expenses, from production costs to utilities.
The situation is so dire that some small business owners are even selling their homes or finding a second job to make ends meet.
“Whichever way you go, they’re asking for more money,” Rocky Pitarelli, a former owner of an Italian restaurant that was forced to close, told the Daily Mail Australia.
Chicken was $9.80 a kilo three months ago, now it’s $11.50. A barrel of oil cost $40, now it’s $85.

“Used utilities cost us $500 a month — now it’s $700 and today they say it will be another 20 percent.
Electricity bills have already skyrocketed across the country, with more than 500,000 households facing another increase of at least 20 percent this winter.
