A bus driver has come under fire for a cheeky handwritten note that passengers claim is “illegal”.
Displayed above the rearview mirror of the Melbourne bus, the sign reads “No food or drink is to be consumed on this vehicle.”
But underneath, in black marker, are the added words: ‘$100 cash: driver if you want a drink!’
The prank was not well received by Reddit users, who complained that it was “stupid” given the sweltering temperatures in the state.
“If you’re stuck in a 30 degree temperature in a sardine can for an hour, it seems reasonable that they would allow you to hydrate,” said one user.
Another shared his frustrations about the drink “policy” not approved by the Victoria Metro or the government, arguing that the driver was practicing “extortion and racketeering”.

‘Good luck with that,’ said one user.
Another wrote: ‘No alcohol for sure. Otherwise, kick rocks.
A third asked: ‘Isn’t it illegal to deny people the right to drink water?’
‘What about people with medical conditions? Are you going to tell someone with diabetes that they can’t take their jelly beans?’ added another.
One person said ‘I love seeing them try to enforce that’.
“At the very least, you absolutely cannot stop anyone from drinking water, at any time and in any public place. You’d be so lucky enforcing a ‘No Breathe’ sign.
