Melbourne barista reveals cafes often swap skim milk for full cream milk

Confessions from a barista: bitter truth about what’s really going on in your morning coffee is being revealed – and it’s bad news for anyone who wants skim milk

An industry insider revealed that most low-fat coffees are actually made with whole milk “because it’s easier.”

KIIS FM’s Up Late With Zach and Dom heard from a caller Kayla, a former barista from Melbourne, who told listeners Tuesday night that requests for skimmed milk are often ignored.

“If you ever order a low-fat milk coffee, know that it won’t be low-fat milk, but most likely just full cream,” she said.

‘It’s just easier because we always have full cream open, that’s the most popular.

“When we’re under the pump, especially in the morning rush hour, it’s so much easier to pour in the full cream, froth it up and pour it in.”

The news devastated several skim milk drinkers who berated baristas for not complying with special requests.

“I’m actually damn disappointed because I’m a hot chocolate drinker and in the morning I get a hot chocolate – next minute I’m in the fucking toilet!” said caller Jess.

‘What are they actually doing to me? I can not stand it. It goes right through me.’

Another caller, Jacqui, said, “I’m totally shocked. I have now added two and two together. That explains why I get the (stomach) pain, because I can’t tolerate whole milk’

“I would never add two and two together.”

Caller Joan said, “Is it that hard to do your job?” We pay for the coffee. You have two jugs – it’s not that hard!’

Zach and Dom were equally impressed by the news, calling the sneaky swap “outrageous.”

“This is doing a lot of damage to people all over the country,” said Zach.

“…We’ve opened the lid on this barista scandal.”

Dom agreed: “You can hear the shock, because skinny coffee drinkers sort of understand this.”

Kayla later called back with advice for people who didn’t want their intolerances to flare up.

“Order lactose-free milk because it’s 100 percent put in,” she said.
