Melbourne woman shocked after filming neighbour’s dangerous backyard act while she cooked lasagne in her kitchen
A Melbourne mother has been left in shock after seeing “3-metre-high” flames appear over her backyard fence as she was preparing her family dinner in the kitchen.
Vonnie M was filming herself making lasagna for a TikTok video when flames came into view from the window behind her.
She then stopped her cooking clip to go into the backyard and investigate, where she discovered that the neighbors had set fire to a couch that they no longer wanted.
The mother pointed out that the flames were very close to a wooden fence, just under a large tree.
“Look at this fire happening to the people who live behind us,” she said in the video.
‘That huge tree is there, I think that’s a bit dangerous.
‘They seem to think they have everything under control.
“I have the craziest neighbors.”
TikToker Vonnie M was preparing food for her family when she saw huge flames flickering over her fence into her neighbor’s yard. She later revealed that they were burning an old couch
In a later video, Vonnie M revealed that they learned that the neighbors set the couch on fire because no one wanted to buy it on the Facebook marketplace and the municipality wouldn’t pick it up.
A spokesperson for the Banyule City Council, the local government area in Melbourne’s northeast where the incident occurred, told Yahoo News they are investigating.
Although backyard burning laws vary by municipality, permits can only be issued in this area for burning green waste, such as yard waste.
Unauthorized backyard burnings can result in fines of up to $400.
