A body has been found during the search for a girl who was reported missing in the Upper Hunter yesterday.

Police on Tuesday asked for help locating Melanie O’Sullivan, aged 17, after she was last seen on Mill Creek Road, Stroud, around 9am on Tuesday.

After failing to return home, Port Stephens-Hunter Police District officers were notified and began an investigation to locate her.

A body has been found during the search for a girl who was reported missing in the Upper Hunter yesterday.

Her mountain bike was later found abandoned next to a swollen creek, sparking a massive search involving SES volunteers and specialist police as fears for the teen’s safety grew.

Family and police were concerned for her well-being because her disappearance did not fit her character.

At around 10am this morning, the body, believed to be that of the missing girl, was found by police near Mill Creek Road, Stroud.

Police are treating the death as non-suspicious and a report will be prepared for the coroner.
