Mel Gibson enjoys rare red carpet with kids Lucia, 14, and Lars, 7, at Monster Summer premiere in LA

Mel Gibson made a rare red carpet appearance on Tuesday with the youngest of his nine children, daughter Lucia and son Lars.

The 68-year-old Braveheart actor-director attended a special screening of his new film Monster Summer at the Directors Guild Of America in Los Angeles on Tuesday.

The Lethal Weapon actor posed with Lucia, 14, who he shares with ex-girlfriend Oksana Grigorieva, 54, and Lars, 7, who he shares with girlfriend Rosalind Ross, 34, at the screening of the horror adventure film.

The Oscar-winning actor-director — who attended Vince Vaughn’s Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony last month — wore a navy plaid sports jacket over a white button-down shirt. He completed his ensemble with dark blue jeans and black sneakers at the cinematic event, sporting a full beard.

Lucia wore an off-the-shoulder red skirt with high heels and her brown locks were loose and parted. Lars wore a white button-up shirt, dark blue jeans and black sneakers, and her long blonde hair was beautiful.

The Passion of the Christ filmmaker is also the father of seven children from his 29-year marriage to Robyn Moore, which ended in 2009.

They are Hannah Mae Brobst, 43; Christian Gibson, 42; Edward Gibson, 42; Will Gibson, 38; Louie Gibson, 35; Milo Gibson, 33; and Thomas Gibson, 25.

In addition to Gibson, Monster Summer also stars Lorraine Bracco, Kevin James, Patrick Renna, Mason Thames, Nora Zehetner and Abby James Witherspoon, the niece who resembles Reese Witherspoon.

According to a logline for the film: “When a mysterious force begins to disrupt their summer of fun, Noah and his friends team up with a retired police detective on a monstrous adventure to save their island.”

Gibson has been working on a number of smaller-scale projects in recent years as he continues to rebuild his career more than a decade after a series of damaging scandals.

In a July 28, 2006, incident in Malibu, California, Gibson was arrested on a drunken driving charge, after which a Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputy said the actor went on an anti-Semitic tirade and made statements such as, “F*****g Jews … the Jews are responsible for all the wars in the world,” according to TMZ.

Four years later, in 2010, Gibson’s career took off when a series of recordings surfaced in which he repeatedly used racial slurs and threatened violence against his former girlfriend Grigorieva.

Following the 2010 scandal, Gibson lost a role in The Hangover 2 after the cast and crew protested his presence in the film.

The Hollywood veteran made a comeback over the past decade with roles in 2013’s Machete Kills, 2014’s The Expendables 3 and 2017’s Daddy’s Home 2.

Gibson was nominated for an Oscar for Best Director and Best Picture for his 2017 World War II drama Hacksaw Ridge. In 2018, the film received six nominations in total.

In recent years, Gibson has appeared in films such as Desperation Road, Confidential Informant, On the Line, Bandit, Hot Seat, Father Stu, Agent Game and Panama.

Earlier this month he traveled to Europe to look at possible filming locations for a sequel to The Passion of the Christ, Variety reported last week.

He had been to Malta and Italy to view various rural areas, Antonio Parente, director of the Puglia Film Commission, told media.

Gibson’s publicist Alan Nierob confirmed that “they have recently been looking at locations,” but that “there’s not much to discuss at this early stage.”
