The performance comes after Mel teamed up with Self-Esteem and Olivia Dean record a song that chases England’s women’s World Cup team to victory.

The song ‘Call Me A Lioness’ was released last month, the day before the tournament kicked off in Australia and New Zealand and three days before the Lionesses started their quest for glory.

Unlike Baddiel and Skinner’s iconic Three Lions (It’s Coming Home) – which the creators have said is about “losing” – this tune, produced by an 11-member team of artists who have come together to form Hope FC, beats, a more cheerful tone. .

Following the Lionesses’ success at Euro 2022, fans were always unlikely to hear the lyric ‘hurt for a year’ in the new song – although the words ‘winning once wasn’t enough’ can be heard.

Other similarities include the use of commentary from last year’s triumph – a stark contrast to the somber imagery used in Three Lions – while the new song also mentions players from the national team, much in the same vein as the anthem of 27 years ago.

Proceeds from the job will raise money for charities supporting grassroots girls’ and women’s football, with former Spice Girl Melanie C praising the impact of last year’s win on the sport.

Melanie C said: ‘It has been great to see the popularity of women’s football grow and their incredible victory last year was a huge inspiration for this new song for the World Cup.’

She added, “I’m so privileged to be involved with a slew of amazing female artists, encouraging our women’s team to bring it home again!”

Mercury award nominee Self Esteem described the recording process as “a lot of fun,” adding, “The Lionesses are the future and I’m so proud and excited to be behind them this summer.”

They will be joined by Wolf Alice singer Ellie Rowsell, Sports Team’s Al Greenwood, Marika Hackman, Rachel Chinouriri, Shura, Jasmine Jethwa, Rose Gray and Highlyly on the track.

Songwriter Glen Roberts came up with the idea for the song after realizing the Lionesses didn’t have their own song when celebrating their Euro 2022 victory for women last year.
